Going ‘Back’ To Heaven

“The sweetest thing in all my life has been the longing — to reach the Mountain, to find the place where all beauty came from… Do you think it all means nothing…this longing for home? For indeed it now feels not like going, but like going back.” C.S. Lewis

“Now we know that if the earthly tent [physical body] we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.  Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling.” 2 Cor. 5:1-2

Where did that longing come from? Paul answers:

“Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith, not by sight.” 2 Cor. 5:5-7

But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. Philippians 1:22-23

I get homesick for Heaven. I think about it more and more. It’s like I want to go home. I am not saying that I existed in Heaven before I was born here on earth – some people believe that. I am just saying that my heart is pulling me more and more towards thoughts of my home in Heaven. The desire to live and move in that atmosphere of total love and joy and peace.

I think we all are being pulled more toward Heaven than ever before. Look at how many books and movies have come out lately about Heaven. Our hearts know that something is about to happen soon. Maybe real soon!

Until then, do all the good that you can as long as you can, because when you leave this world all your efforts here on earth come to an immediate end. Only our works for God will remain. Have the best walk you can and do all that you can, first, to please Him, and second, to have a better eternal reward. Yes, did you get that – an ETERNAL reward.

Heaven will be worth it, whatever the cost we will have paid here on earth. Heaven is our great reward. Read this book – Intra Muros. It is a description of Heaven that was written around 1898. Whether it was an actual vision or just a long dream, she does not really know. The only thing she knows and states, is that instead of the memory of the ‘dream’ dimming over the years, it had actually become more vivid. This book has stood the test of time and has a wide mainstream following. Many churches give this book out to grieving family members.

Contrast the pull of Heaven with the pull to darkness and Hell.

“Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one–the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings…” C.S. Lewis

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” (Revelation 14:13)

“Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?” (Ezekiel 33:11)

Life without God is a slow decline of heart and soul, ever accepting a lower standard, and gaining speed toward eternal darkness. Less happy every day and needing ever more distractions from the pain.  Lost, miserable, and feeding on the greedy pull of things in the world. But never really enjoying anything because there is always this nagging in the back of the mind that Hell awaits. For those without God, the fear of dying must be overwhelming. As it should be.

I do not fear death. Of course, I want to put it off for as long as possible. I don’t want to go before my God appointed time so I can finish my course.

Here is another book, not one about going to Heaven, but rather, about leaving this earth. It is the last moments of famous people immediately before going off into eternity. Some you could tell had salvation and were on their joyous way to Heaven, others were not. Read Dying Testimonies of Saved and Unsaved. Be encouraged or frightened, depending on what is necessary.

  1. Thank you. I just want to go back home but two homeless people told me God has a purpose for me. I feel the pain of the world. I’m very confused. I don’t know who I am yet I’ve felt much of Christ’s pain. His glory runs through my veins. Why would God choose a woman for this. I just want to be an obedient servent. I’m not worthy. I’m still a sinner.

  2. Death of a salesman is nothing compared to Jesus’ substituted mess He took in our place. He entered earths belly like Jonah. His soul was not left in hell or His Body decayed. The lowest hell did not hold Him from highest exaltation in heaven. He went to hell as sin. Making us righteous. Talents are given. ” God is wicked hard taskmaster says Satan. God seems a unreasonable thief sinner to those afraid. It will look that way to you deceived. ” I shall be that” is Satan the punishing judge accusing Gracious & Kind God of Love. As ambassador of The Lamb God is no holding sin against any. Your sins I will remember no more. You have passed from death to life & darkness to light. May you rest in peace. Get off your back. Jesus is not the monkey on your back. Death is swollowed up in victory. Be comforted and reconciled to God. Your regenerated spirit bears witness with peace. You are Children of God. Behold what manner of Love
