Looking Down From Our Seated Position

jamesfraser-02lookingdownonstreetcorner-bwJames Fraser was a pioneer missionary to China from 1908 to his death in 1938. His path into faith is exhilarating. His story is one of the best faith-missions reads around. Here is a small excerpt from the book:

March 20, 1916. Each time your spirit goes under and faints in the testing and trials which come to you, you lose mastery over the powers of darkness, i.e., you get below them instead of abiding above them in God. Every time you take the earth standpoint – think as men think, talk as men talk, look as men look – you take a place below the powers of darkness. The mastery of them depends upon your spirit abiding in the place above them, and the place above them means knowing God’s outlook, God’s view, God’s thought, God’s plan, God’s ways, by abiding with Christ in God.

It was possible to get so entangled in the things of earth that the spirit could not rise above them. “The devil knows this”, he recorded, “and pours earthly things upon you to keep you down so that you go under and not over when the battle comes”. (James Fraser, from Mountain Rain, p. 125)

“…and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,…” Ephesians 2:6

We must never lose our perspective of faith. It is the perspective of peace and victory. It comes by continually abiding in Him and His Word. His Word world is the true reality not our thought world. We are truly victorious when our thought world is fully based on His Word and thoughts. That is when we have the ‘mind of Christ’.
