Don’t let anybody kid you; the lure of the world is plenty strong, but you can resist it.
No temptation has overtaken you that is unusual for human beings. But God is faithful, and he will not allow you to be tempted beyond your strength. Instead, along with the temptation he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to endure it. I Corinthians 10:13
Isn’t that interesting?! God apparently allows people to be tempted but He will not allow them to be tempted beyond that which they are able. Why then does He allow us to be tempted at all? I have no idea, but I bet we will find out someday. In the meantime, as we all know, it is a simple fact of life, and it is something that is not to be thought of as unusual.
So, how do we resist temptation? One way is by staying full of the Holy Spirit of God. Plus, you do everything you can to stay away from it (sorry for the image in that regard).
Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk – not as unwise people but as wise – making the most of the time, because the days are evil. So don’t be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. And don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless actions, but be filled by the Spirit: speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music from your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of Christ. Ephesians 5:15-21 Holman Christian Standard Bible
Oh, and remember, God is not the one doing the tempting:
And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. James 1:13, 14 New Living Translation
