You Cannot ‘Out Think’ the Devil But You Can ‘Out Speak’ Him

by Rex Rouis

Sibyl-of-lemos-juan-carlos-Boveri-300-webYou say – “I really try to meditate on scriptures, to bring the Word from my head to my heart, but it never works. In my mind, the good thoughts get crowded out by negative thoughts and the constant problems of the day.  Is there something I can do?”

Yes, there is something you can do. Forget what you think or feel like, and speak the scriptures out of your mouth. You cannot ‘out think’ the Devil but you can ‘out speak’ him. On our site there is a page of Confessions, use them. They are mostly built upon the prayers of Paul for the Churches. I think this one is the best – Confession – Change Your Life. Speak it out of your mouth. Don’t stop. Personalize it if you like and add other scriptures. Whatever jumps out at you.

You probably won’t feel anything but keep speaking. Faith and God’s Spirit are not a feeling. The feelings will come later. You are planting seeds of the word of God into your mind and heart. They WILL grow up into a harvest of faith. That is the way it works. This is the Kingdom of God.

Faith and God’s Spirit are not a feeling.
It is simple and yet hard to do. Especially if the Devil has somehow gotten a foothold in your mind or your feelings. You will have to ignore both for a while. Both he and this world will do everything they can to keep you from doing this very thing – speaking the good things of God into your life. Speak the word of God, and meditate on it until it becomes a part of you. First, it will change you on the inside, and soon your life will change on the outside. How long will it take? I don’t know. Everyone and every situation is different. But does it really matter? How bad do you want it? How bad do you need it? I know this – it will be worth it.

Don’t try to believe. You can’t. ‘Faith comes’ by hearing and hearing by the (spoken) word of Christ (Romans 10:17). Relax, speak the word and spend time with Him. Know that ‘He is and that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him’ (Hebrews 11:6). At some time and in some way, His voice will come, and His voice will bring faith and victory.

You cannot ‘out think’ the Devil but you can ‘out speak’ him.
Try to focus your mind but don’t worry about it. It will wander. That will eventually change and get better. It is a process, a process called – renewing your mind. Jesus paid for all this. It is not based on your works, but there are things you must do. It can be hard work, but there is a big difference between the negative self ‘works’ of Romans Chapter 4 and the diligent hard work of obedience. Obey Him by putting the word of God into your heart and then seek Him. He will do the rest, and it will be good. Go get’m, God is on your side.

  1. I need help for my fear, unbelief and lack of faith. Please help me if you can. I have been in tormenting fear for over 20 years over this. Ive been to numerous deliverances to no avail. I have prayed, read the bible and cried out to God asking him to make Himself real to me. How can you pray for faith when you’re in unbelief? I question the power of God, and at the same time I know He is all powerful. Everyone says you have to have faith to get your prayers answered. God wont answer your prayes without faith right? I am at my wits end and feel like i’m going to lose my mind. I want Jesus so badly and to experience His lobe so desperately but I dont know what to fo. My mind keeps telling me that i dont even believe He hears my prayers when i pray. The thoughts in my mind are horrible and when i plead the blood it still doesnt stop. Please, do you know if there is any hope for me or am i too far gone?

  2. I have been living with depression, paralyzed fear and unbelief for over 20 years. Ive had numerous deliverances done on me but nothing happens. Ipray alot and read scripture out loud but it only seems to get worse. I plead the blood of Jesus but the thoughts get louder. Im in agony and torment about not being able to believe in the power and love of God for me. I want to have faith so desperately but I dont know howto get it because i’m in unbelief. I dont even know if i have faith that God hears my prayers. My mind is so messed up. So many people prayed for me but nothong happens. I am so scared that there’s no hope for me and, and that God is angry at me. Is there something I can do to build faith with a heart of unbelief? I keep thinking Im too far gone for God and i live in a constant state of torment. Don’t know how much longer i can hold on. PLEASE can someone give me some advice. I dont want to take showers, go out of my room or even eat. I just want Jesus but He’s so far away from me and all I can see is darknes. Thank you for your reply

    1. Been born again is vital by confessing with the mouth and repenting then you can have God’s Spirit joined with your spirit.Romans10:10
” For with the heart man has faith to get righteousness, and with the mouth he says that Jesus is Lord to get salvation.” When God seem far at times it is when He is so near. Though He is within, you can’t sense the Holy Spirit within the human senses. Without Faith we can please God or walk with God that’s why we walk by faith not by sight. I will advise you trust God’s word for you, be alone with Him, ask Him to help you, search yourself by the help of the Holy Spirit for anything that can hinder your intimacy with Him e.g sin ,confess it and repent of it then you receive mercy, remember unbelief is a sin as well Hebrews 4. Trust God and believe what is word is saying refuse to believe the devil’s lies you have that responsibility and don’t rely on physical sensations or feelings to validate that God is with you, you can be misled because He is not a God of feelings though God uses it, the devil works well in the feelings realm. We see God by faith, Faith is also a gift from God Ephesians 2:8. As you pray, don’t tell God about your problems, speak to those problems God knows about the problems but you have the responsibility to speak to them the scripture says in 1 Peter 5 “resist the devil…”that’s your responsibility . What God has ordained you to do, he won’t do it for you. Kenneth Hagin gives an example of something like this, the story is at the end of this message. Be sincere and speak to God about how you feel and what you are going through no need to be charismatic about it or following a pattern just pray as the Spirit within you leads you. I see God helping you friend. Trials and tribulations are food for faith, without it growth won’t be as it should be in us. Shalom. I will love to hear from you soon. God loves you more than you can imagine.

In 1952, the Lord Jesus Christ appeared to me in a vision* and
talked to me for about an hour and a half about the devil, demons,
and demon possession. At the end of that vision, an evil spirit that
looked like a little monkey or elf ran between Jesus and me and
spread something like a smoke screen or dark cloud. Then this
demon began jumping up and down, crying in a shrill voice, “Yakety-
yak, yakety-yak, yakety-yak.” I couldn’t see Jesus or understand what
      He was saying.
(Through this entire experience, Jesus was teaching me something.
And if you’ll be attentive, you’ll find the answer here to many things
that have troubled you.) I couldn’t understand why Jesus allowed the
demon to make such a racket. I wondered why Jesus didn’t rebuke
the demon so I could hear what He was saying. I waited a few
moments, but Jesus didn’t take any action against the demon. Jesus
was still talking, but I couldn’t understand a word He was saying—
and I needed to, because He was giving instructions concerning the
devil, demons, and how to exercise authority.
I thought to myself, Doesn’t the Lord know I’m not hearing what He
wanted me to? I need to hear that. I’m missing it! I almost panicked. I
became so desperate I cried out, “In the Name of Jesus, you foul
spirit, I command you to stop!” The minute I said that, the little
demon hit the floor like a sack of salt, and the black cloud
disappeared. The demon lay there trembling, whimpering, and
whining like a whipped pup. He wouldn’t look at me. “Not only shut
up, but get out of here in Jesus’ Name!” I commanded. He ran off.
The Lord knew exactly what was in my mind. I was thinking, Why
didn’t He do something about that? Why did He permit it? Jesus
looked at me and said, “If you hadn’t done something about that, I
couldn’t have.” That came as a real shock to me—it astounded me. I
replied, “Lord, I know I didn’t hear You right! You said You wouldn’t,
      didn’t You?”
He replied, “No, if you hadn’t done something about that, I couldn’t
have.” I went through this four times with Him. He was emphatic
about it, saying, “No, I didn’t say I would not, I said I could not.” I
said, “Now, dear Lord, I just can’t accept that. I never heard or
preached anything like that in my life!”
I told the Lord I didn’t care how many times I saw Him in visions—
He would have to prove this to me by at least three Scriptures out of
the New Testament (because we’re not living under the Old
Covenant, we’re living under the New). Jesus smiled sweetly and
said He would give me four. I said, “I’ve read through the New
Testament 150 times, and many portions of it more than that. If that
is in there, I don’t know it!”
Jesus replied, “Son, there is a lot in there you don’t know.” He
continued, “Not one single time in the New Testament is the Church
ever told to pray that God the Father or Jesus would do anything
against the devil. In fact, to do so is to waste your time. The believer
is told to do something about the devil. The reason is because you
have the authority to do it. The Church is not to pray to God the
Father about the devil; the Church is to exercise the authority that
      belongs to it.
“The New Testament tells believers themselves to do something
about the devil. The least member of the Body of Christ has just as
much power over the devil as anyone else, and unless believers do
something about the devil, nothing will be done in a lot of areas.”
We believe that certain people have power. No, Jesus said the least
member of the Body of Christ has just as much power over the devil
as anyone else; and when we start believing that, that’s when we’re
going to get the job done.
Jesus continued, “I’ve done all I’m going to do about the devil until
the angel comes down from heaven, takes the chain and binds him,
and puts him into the bottomless pit [Rev. 20:1-3].”
That came as a real shock to me. “Now,” He said, “I’ll give you the
four references that prove that. First of all, when I arose from the
dead, I said, ‘All power [authority] is given unto me in heaven and in
earth’ (Matt. 28:18). The word ‘power’ means ‘authority.’ But I
immediately delegated my authority on earth to the Church, and I can
work only through the Church, for I am the Head of the
Church.” (Your head cannot exercise any authority anywhere except
      through your body.)
The second reference Jesus gave me was Mark 16:15-18: 15 And he
said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to
      every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;
but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall
follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they
shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if
they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay
hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
He said, “The very first sign mentioned as following any believer—
not any pastor or any evangelist—is that they shall cast out devils.
That means that in my Name they shall exercise authority over the
devil, because I have delegated my authority over the devil to the
      Church.”
The next reference Jesus gave me was James 4:7: “.. .Resist the
devil, and he will flee from you” (the understood subject of this
      sentence is “you” .
After that vision, and after Jesus gave me that verse from James, my
spirit told me the word “flee” was significant. I looked it up in the
dictionary and found one of the shades of meanings was “to run from
as if in terror.” The devil will run from you in terror! Then I knew
why the demon in my vision had begun to whimper and cry—he was
      terrified.
Since then I have seen other demons quake and quiver in fear as I
exercised my God-given authority over them. They were not afraid of
me, but of Jesus, whom I represent.
In the vision Jesus gave me another Scripture that tells us to do
something about the devil. This third reference was from First Peter.
Peter wrote, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil,
as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1
Peter 5: . Your adversary means your opponent. Notice what it
says as we go on reading. The next verse reads, “Whom resist
stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions [tests and
trials] are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.” The
American Standard Version says “your faith” instead of “the faith.” I
      like that better.
Jesus said to me in this vision, “Peter did not write this letter and
tell Christians, ‘Now, word has come to me that God’s using our
beloved Brother Paul in casting out devils, and he’s sending
handkerchiefs or cloths, and the diseases are departing from people,
and evil spirits are going out of them, so I would suggest that you
write to Paul and get a handkerchief.’ ”
No, instead of that, he told them to do something about the devil.
Why? Because they’ve got authority over him. The Spirit of God
through the Apostle Peter wouldn’t tell you to do something you
      couldn’t do.
Jesus, James, and Peter tell us to do something about the devil.
Paul says in Ephesians 4:27, “Neither give place to the devil.” This
was the fourth Scripture Jesus gave me. He explained, “This means
you are not to give the devil any place in you. He cannot take any
place unless you give him permission to do so. And you would have
to have authority over him or this wouldn’t be true.”
Jesus added, “Here are your four witnesses. I am the first, James is
the second, Peter is the third, and Paul is the fourth. This
establishes the fact that the believer has authority on earth, for I
have delegated my authority over the devil to you on the earth. If
you don’t do anything about it, nothing will be done. And that is why
many times nothing is done.” Now you can understand why things
have happened as they have. We’ve permitted them to happen! Not
knowing our authority—not knowing what we could do—we have
done nothing, and we actually have permitted the devil to keep on
doing whatever he wanted to do.
We need to realize this. Let’s wake up. We may have to change our
way of praying and get after the devil. I did. It won’t hurt you to
change; it’s good for you. We have authority to do this. We’re sitting
at the right hand of the Father, far above principalities and powers. If
we’re far above them, then we have authority over them. (Kenneth
      E. Hagin)

  3. I have objects strange moving all over my body how do i overcome this by faith

  4. The Lord continue to bless and increase you and your ministry. I have been blessed by many articles on this site but this article is really the KEY to all the other articles working. Renewing the mind I know is KEY. I am determined to get to that place “that I might know Him………”
But this article has helped me understand the process of renewing the mind. Thank you. I am convinced that as I act on this article what is happening is MASSIVE and I will eventually “get it in my heart” Thank you and God bless.

  5. Mark I tried to find you on Facebook I need everyone praying for me and my.family. We have had 4 years of deviation and destruction in our lives loosing everything we had as a result of drug use by my husband and I turning us into people we didn’t even know anymore .We become homeless and my husband.was forced to move out state and try to rebuild our lives …And in order to get away from the people places and things that tempted him to do drugs.Leaving us until he had a place to provide for me and the kids for within 7 months we had manage to stay clean and find us a home .After arriving to a new place I soon realised that what I thought was the end of the battle only was the beginning of what the devil and demons had in store to rip my family apart I have ask myself if the heart ache of my husband trading his drug addiction into a sexual addition having affairs with several women hßas made me crazy and if what I believe is in my home terrorizing. Me and my family My youngest is scared I am scared but today this morning I google Bible verses that protect my family .I said these aloud and I will continue to proclaim my faith in God wether the things that are happening in my home are real or not I will have faith in God that the illness I am having will not be as bad as my negative thought has corrupted my mind. I have tried to reason with myself and give logical explaination but some events have been unexplainable. Please pray God be with us and protect us I myself know that along with dark shadows there has been light ones that has given the feeling of protection I just want the devil to stop attacking my family and I know we can’t fight him alone God is strength and hope and faith..I hope you don’t mind that your message to help grabbed me to ask for help from people who trust in the Lord God Bless you.

      1. I pray that God has already change your situation as I am reading this. this brought tears to my eyes and sorrow in my Heart for you and your daughter, but know that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or think. stay in the word of God daily and pray daily……, meditating on his word. See i am some kin to that situation where as I used drugs recreational and then I was introduced to smoke in a different way because that was my husbands way of getting me involved so i could be the supplier. But, God had a plan to deliver me from drugs as a whole. Hallelujah! I am drug free today because I had to go down in the valley to be delivered from the way I like to get high and not so much as the way my husband wanted to get high. See God always has a plan to deliver his own! Sometimes he uses the people that are close to us to break us and return to him. Keep seeking God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit for Guidance. Trust in the Lord and do good and he God will lift you up in due season if you faint not. Never give up keep going and trusting God for you latter will be better than your beginning. Hallelujah Hallelujah !

  6. You don’t have to be afraid that devil will come back to you. All you have to do is to receive the Holy Spirit into your life, for he that is in you is greater than He that is in the world (first john 4:4). You no longer have to be afraid for Christ has conquered through the cross. You just have tn invite the Lord to abide in you and i assure you He will, cos when he abides in zou then you will be a no-go area to tie devil ane his demons. Remember, “victory start with the name of Jesus in our lips and is consummated when we are Christlike”.

  7. Please am “off/on in Christ
Am just like a baby christian,
    I fail and fall daily.
I’ve known this site for months, but due to my babyish strength, I can’t withstand so long, I will fall.
But today’s topic really touched me,but am afraid, the devil might return into me again, for I’ve cast him out of me,Now.

    I don’t think I need prayers—am not sick.
All I need for now, is a mentor to look after me as a shepherd/ as a father/ as a mother.
I REALLY NEED JESUS TO STAY IN MY LIFE.

  8. ‘Faith and God’s spirit is not a feeling’
This word is enough to pull me through. Most times,we forget that faith has nothing to do with what we see, hear or how we feel.Faith is all about believing and confessing God’s word, whether we feel it or not.

The most important thing is to keep on confessing, speaking the word over your situation.God’s words are infallible.

  9. Dee Dee, I am right there with you. My season has been lasting for over 2 years due to divorce and the many trials and evil works that come with it. I haven’t worked due to depression, and now I can’t get hired due to my extended “break.” Gained tons of weight. Can’t sleep. Only have my sweet little child half time. It REALLY sucks right now, but time and God’s grace has healed a good portion of my heart, and I’m ready to “live again.”

All I can say is that we have to work on our FAITH and take the steps that this article has laid out for us. Except for one pastor, I have NEVER heard anyone or anything else mention that you won’t feel faith at first, or during a renewal phase. This article is the honest truth, and what we all need to hear!

Please try to take heart, and know that with hard work and major patience, “This too shall pass.” I keep telling myself that, and I’m right there with you in the “middle” sister. God Bless!

  10. 1.) Speak the good word,

2.) Plant the seeds of God’s word into your mind and heart.

    3.)Ignore the negative thoughts.

    4.) REPEAT.

LOVE IT!!! This is really great, just what I needed to hear. Most of us think that maybe our bible studies aren’t working after even a week of doing it, or that is going to church doesn’t work, because we’re not “feeling” His grace during these works. But this article has nailed it on the head, that you have to keep doing these Christian dedicated works over and over again, and over time it WILL pay off. It’s very comforting to know that just because you don’t FEEL it doesn’t mean it’s not working.

Thank you so much for this article. Praise God!

  11. Hello everyone,

I believe that my situation is the worst. No job, sleeping all day, bad thoughts. Angry with myself. I believe God have been saved all of my life, attend church regularly, direct the choir and yet I have allowed this spirit to overtake me. How do I recover from this. It has been going on for over 3 years now and I want to find my way back! Help me GOD!

    1. I dont know where you are. I am responding from the ‘back waters’ of Africa. Take this as for what it is. God speaking to you and responding to your cry.

God is on your side, always. Apply the blood on each situation that faces you. God has already redeemed your life from destruction and healed your life by His Word.

God is bigger than any affliction, including yours. Take the Word of God. Read it. Hear it. Think it. Speak it. The Word of God works like a seed. Plant it, it will grow and bring forth a hundred fold.

God is faithful. Are you faithful to do that which He has spoken to you? According to your faith, be it done unto you.
