The Road To Healing – Waiting On God

The road to healing is a road of faith. And on this road there are some necessary stops one must take along the way. One is waiting on God.

Wait for the LORD, and He will save you. Proverbs 20:22b

My soul waits in silence for God only; From Him is my salvation. Psalm 62:1b

I wait for the LORD, my soul does wait, And in His word do I hope. Psalm 130:5

In the scriptures, waiting on God is one of the open secrets to receiving His goodness and presence. Spending quiet time with God is the unassuming opening to God Himself. It is a place of access to His: power, love, faith, grace, cleansing, direction, and even more hunger and holiness. In the connected quiet, God downloads upon us the things we need.

David went in and sat before the LordII Samuel 7:18

It is also a time of recharging for our heart with the power of Heaven. In the language of the New Testament (the time of the early Church), waiting on God was one way to stay ‘filled’ with the Holy Spirit. Time spent in silence waiting before Him is the fuel God uses to make us burn brightly for Him. It fuels the Heavenly fire within.

However, this waiting does not make sense to the natural mind. One of the main benefits of quiet prayer is the quieting of the mind, and the mind does not like this. Our minds do not appreciate the things of God for they are spiritually understood.

The merely intellectual man rejects the teaching of the Spirit of God; for to him it is mere folly; he cannot grasp it, because it is to be understood only by spiritual insight. I Corinthians 2:14

But God chose what the world considers nonsense to put wise people to shame. God chose what the world considers weak to put what is strong to shame. I Corinthians 1:27

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:9

What the mind thinks about waiting on God.

What the mind thinks about waiting on God.

The things of God are not the things of the world, and the ways of God are not the ways of the world. In God, the simple things bring the biggest benefit. Things you would do naturally if your heart was right and you hungered after Him. Simple things like spending time with Him, not because you have to but because you want to. Yes, our heart may want to but we will still have to make ourselves do it. The Devil does everything within his power to stop us from doing this very thing.

For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. Galatians 5:17

Being hurried is the death of prayer. The main reason we do not hear from God is because we simply do not wait long enough. God will not speak to us as we run through life or keep thinking about our phone. He wants us to care enough about Him. He wants us to stop, wait, and listen. The busyness of the world and its distractions are the complete opposite of Godly waiting. Quiet waiting is a work of the heart and not of the head.

In receiving healing, or for that matter in receiving anything from God, faith is the deciding factor. Jesus said many times, “Your faith has made you whole…” The scriptures are clear on this:

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6

But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, James 1:6, 7

Faith, the Bible says, “Comes by hearing.” If you need something from God, get the scriptures out and study them on the subject. Meditate on them, and get them down inside of you. Then wait silently before God, focused on Him in hopeful expectation. This is one way we can ‘diligently seek Him.’ This greatly pleases Him.

He is faithful and He will answer. Many times, a faith problem is a hearing problem, and a hearing problem is a seeking problem. It takes effort to receive faith, and waiting on God is part of that effort.

Wait quietly, wait patiently, wait expectantly, but wait long enough.

  7. I have read (and heard) these same thoughts in other posts found on Hope, Faith, Prayer. They are often found to be the “catch phrases” that grab my spiritual attention. I can’t know how the Holy Spirit will arouse my attention except (and because) these catch phrases are spiritually discerned – He is the arouser, He is the one directing my attention to a path to walk in and believe Him for. This stirs my innermost parts and strengthens my hope into faith. For me, the hope first comes when (in this instance) I read something that my heart recognizes (this to me is spiritual discernment) and stirs God’s Spirit within me, making a point – “Andy, this is for you”. It is at this point I recognize He is instructing me to use Faith (which I believe is the next step in our relationship). I believe this is why it is important to spend this alone time. I have made a decision to “make time available” for Him. I’m learning I may not always hear Him speak specifically about something at that particular moment that I’m able to understand but His Word has been planted and in its time, it will bare its fruit (it then can become spiritually discerned/understood).
    Thanks again Faith Mechanic.
    Andy
