Stop Looking At Your Mountain – Move It

Mountains can be beautiful; they can be fun on a motorcycle, but horrible on a bicycle. I absolutely love mountains, except when they become an obstacle in my way.

Then they can become a real big problem. Especially when your mountain really isn’t a mountain at all but some issue or thing standing in the way of God’s blessing. There it is, standing right in front of you saying, “What are you going to do about me, I am bigger than you?”

You can stay where you are, you can go over it, you can go around it, or you can move it out of your way. Move a mountain?! What a crazy solution. Who would have thought of such a thing? I’m glad you asked – God.

For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore, I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray (a form of speaking), believe that you receive them, and you will have them. Mark 11:23, 24

If I were writing the Bible I probably would have said, “Don’t let that mountain stop you or slow you down, go over it.” Others might suggest, “Just go around it.” But what if you can’t physically go over it, or it would take too much time to go around it?

Again, God tells us to, “Move the dumb thing.” How crazy is that? How creative, how powerful, how unexpected! Only the God of the universe could come up with something like that.

But the sad thing is, most people don’t move their mountains. They don’t do anything. They stay there in front of it and look at it – forever. They are patiently enduring something that God wants them to move. Patience and endurance are Godly concepts, but not all the time. Sometimes you need to move things out-of-the-way. How do you know which to do? By seeking God and hearing from Him. He will tell you what to do. But be willing to think outside of the box.

That is exactly what Jesus was trying to get His disciples to do in the passage above. They were amazed at His cursing of the fig tree. He then turned it around and told them to use the same power of faith in God to move the very mountain they were standing on. God’s solutions can be so much bigger than ours. God’s solution for Moses was to part the red sea so they could walk across on dry ground. That is a lot better solution than having to get into a gazillion small boats.

Seek God and hear His answer. It might be small and simple, or it might be huge and crazy. Whatever it is, it will have His blessing on it. Obey it with faith and courage, and you will enjoy the blessing that’s on the other side. It will take faith to move the mountain, but faith comes by hearing, and hearing from God about your situation will produce the faith necessary to move the mountain.

Are you enduring your mountains or are you moving them? We are not meant to endure our mountains. Imagine what you are missing. The blessings of God are on the other side of that mountain. Get to work, start moving.

“Make your choice, adventurous stranger; ring the bell and bide the danger. Or wonder, till it drives you mad, What would have followed if you had…” – C.S. Lewis

  1. If you want to move mountains you will need to pray, fast, and seek God DAILY (early in the day!). And if you are not Spirit filled, pray you receive Him you will need the Holy Ghost in order to move any mountain.

  2. What happens when you don’t understand what God is telling you to do? I’ve been trying to move my mountain for over two years and still don’t have clarity on it. I’ve prayed and listened and nothing. I’ve heard all the answers so unless there’s a direct word from God I probably heard it already.

  3. Thank you for a great post. By the same power that raised Jesus from the dead the resurrection power i move the mountain of lack in finances in Jesus name. amen.
