Planting God’s Seed for Maximum Yield

by Rex Rouis

Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Luke 8:11

We are taught to be farmers of the Word of God. Through parables, Jesus teaches us to plant this precious incorruptible seed into the fertile soil of our heart (Mark 4:1-34), with the intended end of producing an abundant harvest of faith. Successful farmers have learned how to maximize harvests from their type of soil. They know that healthy crops come from healthy soil. One way to maximize the harvest yield is the practice of what is called ‘crop rotation.’

Crop rotation is exactly what it sounds like – rotating the growing of crops in an intelligent manner to strengthen the soil and produce increased yields. One type of plant helps the other; each takes away and puts back important nutrients into the soil.

Don’t read, study, and confess the same scripture topics over and over. Mix it up. You need all types of seed to grow healthy long-term faith. God wants us to prosper but prosperity scriptures alone will not produce a good crop. Seeds of love, holiness, service to others, and of what it means to be in Christ must also be planted. All the Word of God must be planted to produce a healthy and balanced Christian walk and faith.

The Word of God is perfect seed. Given the right soil conditions, it will always grow. Our responsibility is to plant the right seed, and keep our soil in the best possible condition. We were made to produce fruit.

…for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God. I Peter 1:23

“The soil is not, as many suppose, a dead, inert substance. It is very much alive and dynamic. It teems with bacteria, actinomycetes, fungi, molds, yeasts, protozoa, algae and other minute organisms.”
