Your Past Is Not God’s Future for You

Your past need not be your future. God has a bright future in store for you if you will accept it and believe it.

I know the plans that I have for you, declares the LORD. They are plans for peace and not disaster, plans to give you a future filled with hope. Jeremiah 29:11

Take His plans and make them your plans. You can’t do that if you are always looking to your past instead of to His future. His plans for you are in His promises, and those precious promises can come alive only by seeking Him about them. He can give you the directions in the map of His word on how to get there. Jesus is the way, the road to blessing and salvation. Seek Him and hear from Him, this is the way of faith, and faith is the way of the victor.

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith. I John 5:4

One cannot be both a victim and a victor at the same time. Choose to be one or the other. Religion, most of the time, tries to be both and ends up being neither. Guilt and a low spiritual self-esteem will keep you in the prison-house of victimhood. It will keep you in the past of yourself instead of the future of Him. Being ‘In Him’ is being in His life and in His future.

Your past is not His future for you. It is not easy to put on the ‘new man’ in Christ (the ‘new you’ In Him), but we must. The ‘new man’ is the ‘new you’ made for a ‘new future.’ You are valuable in His eyes, so treat yourself as valuable in your own eyes. This is not always easy. Sometimes you are going to have to choose to forget the past and ignore all that is around you. Walking by faith is not walking by sight, or walking by feelings, and it sure is not walking in the past. Treating yourself as valuable is not pride but true humility before God. To do anything less is disobedience to the God Who has great plans for you and has promised great things for you. Walk with Him in the light of His love and mercy.

If we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. I John 1:7

Remember, you have no past and He has your future. Wouldn’t it be nice if life was really like this? Well, it can be if you walk in the light as He is in the light and allow His blood to cleanse you from all sin, and from all the left over stuff of the past. God has created a great separator between the past and the future, it is called Today. Every day can be a new day of opportunity in the plan and future God has for us. Our effort is to live in our ‘today’ and trust Him for a great tomorrow.

Forget yesterday, live in today, and look with hope toward a great tomorrow. Go get’m Pep.

  1. This is a great read – thank you. Particularly your point about not trying to be a victor and a victim at the same time. I think this is a vital message for all Christians. God has already won the victory for us – we need to walk in that, by faith. Keep up the great work.

  2. Another facet on the gemstone of truth/ created Adam willingly became infected with, and a carrier of disobedience ,sin, and death, to the which all of his descendants inherited, even though they had not acted in the ,similitude of there father, his taint was their taint, another way to put it there ain’t. ===However, The Father, produced another offspring ( birthed not created), whom willingly retained and dispersed, obedience, purity, and everlasting life. To the which all who are (rebirthed) in him inherited, even though they had not acted in the similitude of their FATHER . His Glory was their Glory, beginning of story( GRACE the much more) Romans five : 12-21

  3. I once was lost but now am found was blind but now can see, always ask for Gods’ grace in every endeavour, I have been battling severe depression with schizophrenic episodes, I asked for Gods help and he directed me to the right person. The depression comes and goes but the schizophrenia is banished. I am so lucky to have a loving family, Christian friends, a job, a home, food in the cupboars and clothes to wear. Let us all pray for those who have so little <3,

PS I am working on an article about the humanity and emotions of Jesus. I am learning so much about how messed up His relationship with His family was. He knows exactly what we are going through except without the sin.

  4. This site is God sent, ever since I came across this website just few hours from now, I can’t tell what going on in life now,i mean something else is trying to take control over my life. I bless today.
Please I’ve known christ since my birth but now I really and Truely want to fellow him 100% now.
Am confused in some decisions, please I really need someone to help me out and mentor me, THANKS.

  5. Thank you!! Why? 1:00 am til 7:40 am this morning I was listening to country music and the voices of a selection of regrets and sorrows, some with tears. AMONG those “useless voices” from the past was the voice of The Lord, very present very reassuring always loving. He didn’t leave me. He held my hand and heart until I remembered..I am more than conqueror and victorious in Christ Jesus. You Are Right. Dead Dogs Need A Reminder.

  6. Lily, I may not share your exact circumstances but I have shared your feelings, in fact I’m still trying to get through them after my illness. Let’s work together because you know what? It will get better because God will not forsake us! Try to forget yesterday, embrace your rejuvenated health, love your baby and think of all the joy in store for you. Don’t look back! Love you.

Yes, we all need love, and a future of hope. It is the hope that motivates us. Without hope there is no reason to do anything. No reason to fight the evil and the hurt. No strength to leave the past. We bring each other love and hope, and, of course, God is the source of Love and Hope. The Devil tries to imprison us through our thinking while God is working to free us through our believing. The thinking takes no effort, it just comes because we are like an antenna in an evil world.

Believing and the renewing of the mind take effort. It is like swimming upstream, and all the while we bump into all the terrible stuff floating at you coming downstream. The voice in your head says, “Why not just float down with the rest, swimming just is too much work?” And you think, “Yes, why not, floating is so much easier?” Well, because that river will take you to more sorrow and death.

The voice in the Bible and in your heart says, “No, fight on, come to me, get more of Me inside of you and we can do this together.” Like anything, it is hard at first but it gets easier. The Holy Spirit helps us. The more we have of Him the more help we have. Rex

  7. Rex, i don’t know how you do it but you always awe me. This is truly a keeper. Thank you.

  8. Past is cast into the sea of forgetfulness as far as the east is from the west. Buried hatchets where sleeping dogs lay. Dissolved absolution. ” Your sins I remember no more”! Hebrews inherited. Amen

YES, so be it. And sometimes those dead dogs need to killed again, or at least reminded that they are dead. God bless you. Rex
