How Do You Plant a Word?

Mark 4:14  The sower sows the word.  (NASB)

How do you plant a Word?  Where do you plant a Word?  What does a planted Word grow into?  How do you harvest a fully grown Word?  How do you know when to harvest it?

The Word that we are talking about is the Word of God. Each distinct conveyed piece of knowledge in the Bible is a Word – not a sentence or a paragraph, but a Word. A single, usually small, point of knowledge or thought. Each of these Words is a seed. Each seed has within it the potential for a miracle. The seed is only a potential miracle, the harvest is the real thing. The harvest of the seed is the reality of the Bible Word. You plant this Word by hearing or reading the written Word of God.  Hope is planted in the heart, and if the heart/soil conditions are right it will grow, and produce the harvest.

Genesis 1:11  Then God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation : plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them”; and it was so.  (NASB)

Wheat seed produces more wheat.  Chickens produce more chickens.  Therefore, it appears that a Word seed would produce more Words.  However, not a word seed but a fully grown Word.  What does a fully grown Word look like?  What is the difference between a Word seed and fully grown Word?

The harvest of the Word is when it comes alive and you ‘hear’ on the inside, in your heart.  This ‘hearing’ is the confirmation and approval by God of that hope seed.  This ‘hearing’ is a face-to-face ‘hearing’ of the heart.

Romans 10:17  So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word (rhema) of Christ.  (NASB)

A seed of anything is a future potential of that particular thing’s reality.  It is planted and grows into a present reality of that particular thing.  So the seed is a future potential (hope Word), and grows up into a present reality (faith Word), which is then harvested and consumed (spoken faith Word – prayer).

Hebrews 11:1  Now faith is the substance (title deed – ownership reality) of things hoped for, the evidence of things not (yet) seen.  (KJV)

Hope is all about future potential, but precedes faith, which is always in present tense.  Faith is something you have now, for what you will receive in the future.  The ownership reality of hope is in the future.  The ownership reality of faith is now, in the present.  Faith can, and will, pull that which you had hoped for from the future and into the now.  You will meet up with it at the appointed ‘now’ time in the future.

Mark 11:23  “Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart (now), but believes that what he says (now) is going to happen (in the future), it will be granted him.  (24)  Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them (when you pray), and they will be granted you (in the future).”

In the spirit you have to get your tenses right!  Faith is the harvest of things hoped for, the reality of things not yet visible.  Hope says you can have it, faith says you do have it.  If you release that Word of Faith by speaking it, it will come.

  1. Truth and Grace came through Jesus Christ.
Word of hope from heaven…………………… The word is Seed.
When the seed is sowed on the soil…….. The soil is our heart.
When we meditate on the word and pray, the seed germinates into Faith. ……….Faith: the substance of hope.
By Grace through faith, we are saved.
The germinated seed (Faith) grows in two directions. One deeper into the soil (our Heart) and one up the soil and beyond and becomes visible to others and matures. Then it is called ” Harvest”
When we are visible to others, we are the witnesses of the word.
The word of God is Jesus Christ, and we became his witnesses.

I know I’ve read this article before but didn’t receive the same revelation (on-going revelation, isn’t it?). I’m supposing it is this “word seed” (which had been planted) you are describing which is in this “growing process” in my life. When I’m inspired to have my quiet time, the ground of my heart is “plowed and opened” to receive moisture and the necessary nutrients to facilitate this growing process (my maturing). Hope, Faith, Prayer is a “constant” in my garden shed. It is on the “much used” shelf found in this shed. Hope, Faith, Prayer are the “ingredients” necessary for maturing the harvest in my field. The depth these ingredients can reach into the soil to feed the roots and deepen their structure is important. I’m sure this is why it is on the most used shelf in my garden shed. Maybe this is why I like gardening so much. I’m not necessarily good at it but the bounty from the garden is freely given away at harvest time and is hopefully appreciated by those who receive it.

Andrew – Wow, you are becoming a farmer for God. Remember, the seed is eternal. The harvest is for now and for eternity. God is so proud of you, and we are too. Rex
