Scriptures To Encourage Yourself In the Lord

James_Tissot_300-webby Rex Rouis

When nothing else will work, encourage yourself in the Lord. Do it with the word of God. “Be assured, if you walk with Him and look to Him, and expect help from Him, He will never fail you.” – George Mueller

But David encouraged himself in the Lord. I Samuel 30:6

For whatever was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that we may have hope through endurance and through the encouragement from the Scriptures. Romans 15:4 Holman Christian Bible

David needed to, and so will you. And if he can do it, you can do it. Let God pour His love and acceptance into you. He is faithful and you are accepted. Receive it and walk in it.

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29

Peace Bible Verses

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15

If David can do it, you can do it.

  1. I’ll reply to myself and fix the incorrect auto correct in my reply to Gordon. It should have read that if Jesus had prayed for them to find food instead of providing it, they would have found food! Blessings to all.

  2. This is to Gordon, I inadvertently deleted his post. I believe that if Jesus had prayed for the throng to find God, rather than providing the fish and loaves, they would have found food! Keep the faith.

      1. Good morning Sister Kay. I am sorry for not getting back to you sooner. God was doing his work and his blessings were coming through. I remembered hearing my elders in my church as a kid saying that he might not come when you think he should but he’s always on time. I went to bed praying and praising his name and woke up the same. The saints said that he would do it and he did and still doing it . I know he’s not done but I’m going to praise him and testify early anyways. First I got a job close to where I am staying where it won’t take me long to get there. They want me to start my orientation soon like next week. Then my housing situation the rent money came to account this morning around 8 am…I got 4 x my weekly amount. I can’t stop crying and praising God right now. Thank you for your prayers. God is good all the time
I believe that he’s not done with me yet.

Peace – Our prayers will help (and we do pray for you) a little but what really helps is you getting into those scriptures, and meditating and confessing them as much as you can. That will make you invincible in God. Rex

    2. @ peace…… Recieve strength in Jesus Name. Thank you all for your prayers and comment. A friend of mine sent me a chat telling me that she`s tired of coming to our church simply becos she doesn`t feel encouraged any more. So, i tried to convince her to encourage herself in the Lord. In my search for words and scriptural backups that i stumbled on this site just yesterday 9th may 2016. I don`t knw for how long this piece had been online but all I knw is I am blessed. Thanks so much guys and God bless you all. This is Eniola from Nigeria.

      1. Welcome, Eniola, I am glad you found this site. I hope your friend will find words here that speak to her. Blessings to you.

  8. Thank you so much Janet, may the good Lord and His angels watch over you . Be blessed

  9. I am inspired by this site, indeed every time I am down to earth the moment I start going through it I get encouraged and uplifted, apparently, when I’m bored this site do comfort me .

  10. Please pray for me. I was diagnosed with cancer even though im trying to stay positive I am hit with other things in my health. These scriptures have helped like you couldnt imagine. Thank you

    1. I am so sorry. Just as Jesus’ touch has healed so many, picture in your mind him reaching out to you and feel his warmth as his hand touches your forehead, casting out all the demons.

Rebecca – I will pray for you. Stay encouraged in God through His word. I agree with Kay. Work to get a picture of the ‘truth’ of God working in your body over the ‘facts’ of where your body is now. Faith is not denial, it is looking straight at the evil situation and believing that God will change it.

The last one I wrote for myself in my battle with prostate cancer. The one scripture that always jumps out at me is:

Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Psalm 103:2, 3, 5

Speak it and meditate on it till it gets inside of you. He heals all your diseases in Jesus Name, and He is renewing your youth like that of an eagle. Tell me, why would God write this promise if He didn’t desire to do it? He wrote it so you would believe it so He could do it. It is not about getting Him to do it. It is all about getting the faith sufficient for Him to do it. Go get’m tiger. Rex

PS The Devil is smart. He does not hit us with just one thing. He coordinates several things. Just focus on God and one thing at a time. You are not the cause of all this. It is an attack of evil. Fight it and win. Faith is the victory.

      1. It has been a year now and after my last appointment I am cancer free. I thank God daily for my health and His amazing grace.

      1. Connie, You are not alone. I pray that God restores your health, strengthens your soul and eases your fears.

  11. Please pray for me and my family. I am trying to stay encouraged but I am being attacked by evil forces. My son is being accused of doing something intentionally but was an accident. There was only one witness that is verifying his innocence and about 12 people that were friends and sticking together against him. My 17 year old grandson has left home and only has 5 months left before graduation. I am overwhelmed. Most times I am strong in the Lord, but today I feel weak and heavy laden. Pray that my strength endures.

      1. Thanks Chris for the encouraging articles and scriptures. They will help me refocus on God’s promise to never leave nor forsake us.

      1. Thanks for your prayers Kay. This is going to be a long battle but I feel encouraged that God will see our family through this. Continue to pray for us.

  12. I thank God for this website its truly a blessing for me. I am so got with business but this site encourages me and puts me up straight reminding me of God’s faithfulness in my life. Angie

  13. The struggle of life, gets our mind off of God and puts them on our problems. God’s word brings life and light to darkness and hopelessness.

Thanks for the light and life of the word of God.

John 6:63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.”

Scott – Yes, and what we focus on gets bigger. That is why we are to ‘magnify’ the Lord in all that we do. As we lift Him up, He lifts us up. Stay in the word and try to keep the promises that fit your need ever before you. It will build something deep in your heart. It will be Him. God bless. Rex

  14. I would like to say thank you for these bible verses they make a meaning in my life, I so encouraged and I’m strengthened, and I’m ever so grateful God bless you abundantly.

    Loicy Sibanda.

  15. I cannot tell you how much your writings have strengthened me. I love my Pastor dearly but as English is not his native language there is sometimes a bit of confusion; your words are clear and powerful. Thank you.
