The following is a list of scriptures on laziness. Laziness is a killer; fight it with all you have.  Laziness breeds disappointment, and disappointment breeds hopelessness, and hopelessness breeds depression, and depression robs you of your motivation, which in turn breeds more laziness.  It is a cycle of death and destruction.

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 – And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;  (12)  That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.

Proverbs 24:30-34 – I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; (31)  And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.  (32)  Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.  (33) Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: (34) So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.

Proverbs 6:6-11 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: (7) Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, (8) Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.  (9)  How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?  (10) Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: (11) So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

Proverbs 13:4 -The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

Proverbs 12:24 -The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

Proverbs 20:4 -The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

Proverbs 19:15 -Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

Proverbs 10:4-5 -He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.  (5) He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

Proverbs 22:29 -Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

Ecclesiastes 10:18 -By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.

Proverbs 27:23-27 -Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.  (24) For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?  (25) The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.  (26) The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.  (27) And thou shalt have goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.

Proverbs 28:19-20 – He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.  (20)  A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

Proverbs 20:13 – Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

Proverbs 21:5 – The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.

Proverbs 12:11 – He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.

  1. Dear Robin,
I know your post was months ago but I just ran across it tonight. I would say try to not entertain your thoughts of worry. I use to be very depressed and my favorite bible verse is “This is the day the Lord made I will rejoice and be glad in it. ” There are many days I need reminders but God has truly delivered me from depression and made me joyful. Even on my worst days now I know God is there. He is there for you and you will get through this and have JOY!

I pray read scriptures about laziness. I am so tired of going around this mountain. If one thing good came from your comment is I’m not alone.

  5. This is how i understand speaking in tongues. It is speaking in many known languages just as the spirit filled people in the upper room when the tongues of fire landed on them. People below thought these people were drunk in the morning however, they were shocked to learn that these spirit filled people were speaking in the many languages of the area. Speaking in tongues therefore is not unintelligible

    1. Its simple The unsurendered soul is selfish and allow Satan to fluff us up and say we don’t need to work The says get up early in the morning .So get up and wait and seek his face.
. It not rocket science, just get stuck in ,do the work for God .Sink or swim .
The lord is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him . Simple isn’t it .
Now do what Holy Spirit is telling you.
. Obedience carries the anointing and the anointing breaks the yoke .
We are to worship him in spirit and in truth not fantasy .
. Maybe I have been a Hard working Bricky for to long.
. I call it tough love.
. Bless you all real good

  6. Wow! just reading your testimonies motivates me and reminds me once more that we should not allow the flesh to control us but rather mediate real on the word and pray to God that self-control within us is developed and maintained throughout our spiritual lives.

  7. Hello Daniel.

I have removed the previous comment and the link. I know nothing about the man’s ministry and I should have removed it earlier. Thank you.

  8. Hi, thank you for you sight. It seem as though I have had some Spirit of Sloth, and I need to get rid of it; though, it has harshly attached itself to me for quite some time. Can you suggest a few verses I can stand on until this breaks?

I do not want to look back on my life, and see all my day were wasted. I am a man that fears God, and the Great Judgement.
I am not the type to ly in bed, I’m up at 6:30am, but there is some thing that has made me forgetful. Without fail, I’m forgetting a least some each time I go out the door. I have to come back in to remember what is was. This steeling my life away!!
