Faith Comes
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the (spoken) word of Christ. Romans 10:17 NASB
The Bible simply states that ‘faith comes.’ This is huge. The word ‘comes’ communicates the fact that faith is something that does not originate with us. It comes to us from an outside source. The Bible also says that faith comes through hearing, and this hearing comes from God.
Faith then comes from God. It does not come from man. We do not choose to have faith. It is not a result of our will. We cannot simply decide to believe God on our own. This ability comes from God alone. Faith is the God given ability that makes a portion of His Word come alive. Only He can impart this. Only He can make His Word come alive. Faith comes to us through God’s voice to our heart.
“Every exhibition of the power of faith was the fruit of a special revelation from God. . . . Our spiritual power depends on God Himself speaking those promises to us.” Andrew Murray
Faith Is
Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen. Hebrews 11:1 Holman Christian Standard Bible
Faith comes to us in the form of a reality, a heart reality of a portion of the Word of God. A portion of His Word that is pertinent to our hoped desire. When the Word comes alive in our heart, we receive the reality of that Word. Faith is a piece of the reality of God, received through His Word. We access His blessings and abilities through this faith – His reality for us. Faith is the reality of His Word.
