  1. Hey there, I once had this problem to. My pastor got me thinking when he told me one day, there’s going to be 3 voices that you hear, God’s, the enemy, and your own. So the enemy is going to try to deviate you from God original intent, your own intellect will try to keep you comfortable, The Hold Spirit (God) is the next voice you’ll hear. John 10:27 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. Don’t get discouraged, God speak to us is different ways, He uses dreams, other people, even situations. Pray that you become more sensitive to His voice.

  2. Please i need help. I hope i make sense. I am wondering about God’s voice. Does he talk to us does he talk to me. I dont want to be confused by the evil one and be lead astray. How does God talk to me what does he say does he talk to me? For example i want to prosper and i want a job go to school get my own place be independant have a career etc. But to each of those things i hear “dont do it” like everything i want to do i hear “dont do it” is that God? I think its not it cant be. Why would God tell me not to work not to go to school not to get a career not to prosper? I think i am under attack of the evil one i try to overcome it and prosper but i fear and love God so i hear “dont do it” and not do it. Also in addition to that i hear voices seperate from that that torture me i refuse to obey them i think they are the evil one. I started hearing “dont do it” when i was a kid maybe 4 or 5 but i started hearing voices maybe when i was 25. The voices say use your gift meaning the “dont do it” thing but if i obey the “dont do it” thing i would get nothing done, i would be a vegetable. Please someone help me. I want to obey God if i hear his voice. I am confused. I try my hardest.

    1. What this sounds like to me is this “don’t do it” is a recurring negative thought that you’ve kept around since you were very young. God loves you and would never want you to be tormented by this. God would want you to follow your heart and to do what makes you happy. I would advise you ignore this “don’t do it” and begin working.

    2. Hi Bryan, The enemy does not want God’s children to prosper because the enemy blew his opportunity when God kicked him out of Heaven. The Lord wants all His children to prosper so you go and do what the Lord tells you to do Prosper 🙂

      God bless you brother: )

    3. Hi Bryan,
The enemy does not want God’s children to prosper because the enemy blew his opportunity when God kicked him out of Heaven. The Lord wants all His children to prosper so you go and do what the Lord tells you to do Prosper 🙂

      God bless you!!!
Your sister in Christ Jesus Nancy..

    4. Please understand that God does not want you to follow your heart, he wants you to follow His heart.

      Jeremiah 17:5-8
Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord. He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land. “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

Just today I spoke with my pastor about this very thing. His response is , pray to hear Gods voice, Pray for him to reveal his will to you and stay in the scripture; especially the ones that talk about hearing His voice. Satan is trying to frustrate you. Be anxious for nothing

      Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

  3. Thank you for your prayers Rita. I believe God will show himself to my son, and will continue to pray until I see him through this. Thanks so much

  4. Today I’m praying for your Son, he has his own will, but I pray that God will enlighten his understanding so his eyes will be open to see just how much God loves him. When he sees God’s love he will be open to Chang his ways. Hi eyes will open soon, and change will come.
    Just keep praying!
God hears your prayers and he had compassion for mothers.

  5. I need prayer for my teenage son who in hooked on marijuana. He knows Jesus, yet is fighting and defending the “it’s not bad” I need Jesus to step in and help. Please pray. It ruining his life, but he thinks it’s helping him. So heartbreaking. I wish I could sit with God and him to talk to me, promising me He will bring him back, and he will save him from this.

  6. please I want to know how God hear women Voice more than men

  7. I am a grandma with temporary custody of my two granddaughters–6 years and 14 months. They have different fathers. My daughter suffers from anxiety and uses prescription drugs incorrectly. The father of the 6 year old has petitioned to get custody and move her 1500 miles away. I have petitioned to keep both girls with me. They adore each other! I am in a losing battle as the law does not give any rights to siblings or grandparents. Social Services, the girls attorney, and the County Attorney are all backing the father. He is 31 and lives with his parents. He has never supported his daughter financially. He has never taken care of her by himself. He has been deem a “fit” parent from 3 hours of observation by a psychologist. I have been asking God to speak to me and guide me as to what I should do. I pray for my granddaughters, who will be the real victims. There is really no hope that I can win and keep her here with her sister, her cousins, and me. Only God can touch the heart of her father. Only God can keep her safe and only God can calm my troubled heart. I go back and forth as to if I should keep trying through the court or just give up and try to get the best visitation possible for the girls. I think I know what to do but do not act. Then I think the other way is better. I don’t know what God is trying to say to me. How can I know when I am hearing God’s will in this situation? I can’t just stay stuck and do nothing. Any help?

  8. My name is Susan I would like for you to pray for my husband and I to restore our marriage

  9. GOD will speak to you through your mind and it will feel as if you are thinking to yourself but say this prayer before listening to GOD ” May the SPIRIT OF THE LORD go forth before me in Jesus Name Amen” by doing this you will be able to cut out all distractions (negative thoughts/evil distractions trying to interfere with GOD’s voice) May GOD lead you in Jesus Name Amen. Do not second guess HIS voice any longer and walk by faith not by sight. It’s HIS timing not ours. GOD bless in JESUS MIGHTY NAME AMEN

  11. Hello, please pray for my husband and I, we are a young couple who want to be independent, my husband is working and I do not,yet we have a lot of bills to pay, we are constantly attacked by the enemy to give up and honestly sometimes we feel like God is soo far away,we constantly pray for each other, but it’s feels like God is not listening to any of our prayers bt then we remember he promises not to leave nor forsake us, please join us in prayer for Gods provision and for me to hear his voice each time I pray, sometimes I’m confused whether it’s from God or my own mind. Thank you and be blessed.

  12. Liz I thank God for leading you to this page. I pray that the chains of depression and suicidal thoughts are broken over your life in Jesus name. I thank God for your life and the great plans he has for you. I pray that you find peace in knowing that before you were formed in your mother’s womb God knew you, and even now He holds you in the palm of His hands. I pray that you realize that you are precious in His sight and you are LOVED! God Bless you Liz ❤️

  13. I’m happy I stumbled upon this this afternoon. Depression has led me to a point in which I have been contemplating suicide as my way out of the mental and emotional pain. I can’t take such a route. I can’t hurt those that love and care for me. I can’t hurt God who gave me life. Please pray for me to see more clearly as this depression has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Thank you so much.

  14. Alexander, I don’t believe it’s a “stronghold”. I had the same problem, if you are walking in righteousness with GOD you have the ability to hear him and for you to talk back. You have to find the way GOD speaks to you. He speaks to people in different ways. You are as close to GOD as you want to be. The more time you spend with him the closer you are to him.

  15. Hi,

My name is Alexander and I am currently getting something which I can’t determine is the voice of God or not. It could be a stronghold from the devil. I’ve been praying about it and tried to watch all the material on YouTube about the voice of God etc. I even found the scripture James 3:17. I’m in a bit of a predicament because I have been diagnosed with a mental illness (Schizophrenia) but I’m trying to balance my delusions with the real voice and leading from God. My illness isn’t severe I can still function quite well it’s just that I am hearing a voice from God like one you would hear in your imagination. I have watched “It’s Supernatural” and on that show they talk about the voice of God trying to get them to do certain task that are challenging and would require hard work. My voice wants me to get a job and I wanted to get your opinion about it. I have just moved into a new place and the whole move kicked up some anxiety attacks and I consulted my psychiatrist about staying home to get amalgamated and have been for 6 months now I am also getting used to new medications so my psychiatrist agrees with me. Now I haven’t gotten used to the meds yet or been able to get fit to go and work but the voice is persisting in saying “look for a job, and I would tell you any more till you do what I say because God doesn’t need to give reasons”. I have also tried praying “God if this is really you give me a sign”. Please help if you can, thanks ~Alex

  16. I thank God for this scriptures. I pray that His spirit teach me how to listen to His voice diligently

  17. Hi Gina, I was having the same problem. I felt the very thing you are describing right now. I felt like I didn’t belong, like I wasn’t enough for God. I would pray and it felt like my prayers were getting ignored. I didn’t know if God was talking or I was talking to myself. I went to a class at my church and the answer is simple, you have to find out how God speaks to you. He speaks to people in different ways. Like me, he speaks to me in my dreams. I would always have dreams but I never thought about it until someone made that statement. You are as close to God as you want to be. Try fasting and praying about making your heart open to his voice. Stay consistent.

Shelia – Don’t give up. Push in to God even more. He is a rewarder of those that ‘diligently seek Him.’ Hearing from Him is not easy, and it must be learned. It is more of an art as it is a science. It goes against everything in this world.

Look at these pages – Seeking and Hearing. God bless you.

  18. I’m Gina Okpam, a christian and yet having some difficulties in these areas: (1) the feeling that people do better than me and I have nothing to offer. As a result I’m always inside of me and I don’t talk. (2) trouble knowing the difference between God’ s voice and my own intellect and human voice. My most desire is to please GOD. My heart is willing. (3) It seems as if God is blank on me and it seems far from being lead by the Holy Spirit. Pleas i verymuch apprecite someone’s advise.

  19. Rex- Thanks so much for your inspiring words. Thanks for the concern.

  20. Hi everyone, my name is Deidre and I’m having trouble distinguishing t he difference between God’ s voice and my own intellect. I Want so much to please GOD. My heart is willing and open. I’m living according to his word but it seems far from being lead by the Holy Spirit. Can anyone help?

    1. Author

Deidre – I like your persistence. It reminds me of the woman in the Bible not letting go of the ‘unjust judge.’ Bravo, you have the first big step down pat – not giving up. When Jesus taught on prayer and faith, He spoke frequently about perseverance. It is huge to God. It shows your motivation and hunger, and need for Him. God says that you will find Him when you seek Him, ‘with your whole heart.’

Now, on to the matter at hand – which voice is it? All I can say is this, ‘the more you listen the more you will be able to distinguish the difference.’ It is an art that must be practiced. You will make some mistakes but keep going and keep learning.

The devil pushes, and uses guilt and pressure. The Holy Spirit woos and leads. The God of the Bible is a leader and not a pusher. The Holy Spirit can be very firm but not with the intimidation and pressure. Even when God convicts you of sin, there is always the knowledge that things will be alright afterward. One of the first things to learn is the difference between guilt and conviction.

And of course, the Holy Spirit will always agree with the commands and spirit of the Bible. I am sending you some materials by email. God bless you. Rex

  22. Hello,

To the author(s) of this site, your references are so on point and on time.

A lot of what you mentioned in previous pages relates to me. I believe that God has led me here. You sounded as though you’re talking directly to me.

I’ve been suffering severe depression for at least 4 years. I had a slipped disc in my back for 2 years and I felt as though I was being attacked from all sides. It affected me spiritually, emotionally, physically and psychologically. I was basically confined to my house and the walls felt as though they were closing in. The pain from my lower back was extreme. It was one of my lowest points. I managed to get a little relief from watching Christian TV, but really needed to be in the house of God. I did have visits from brethren though.

When you’re in the middle of depression, nothing seems to matter. You feel overwhelming hopelessness and despair. Sometimes I went for long periods of not showering, not changing my clothes and not remembering if I’d eaten. It’s an awful place to be.

You really want to claw your way out, but can’t. At one point, I was on anti-anxiety medication, but was only given 6 tablets to get me through that season. When I went back for more, the Doctor said ‘ I don’t want to keep giving you these, they’re addictive. We really need to find the root cause of your issues’. She sounded like a Pastor. It got me thinking. Even a non-Christian knows that you have to treat the deep-rooted problem, and not the symptom.

Last week I was due to go back to my Doctor for a medical check and I was planning to ask for some medication. Before I even had time to think about it, I felt this pressing feeling in my chest. I knew that I was being led to pray. I went upstairs and shut the door behind me.

I’m a Gospel singer, so singing comes naturally. I started hearing songs and sang them one after another and I also prayed. I felt my spirit open up and God began talking to me. I started talking out loud the things which God was telling me.

For those of you going through depression, hopelessness etc, talk out loud. Your own voice will impact your spirit!

God let me know secrets concerning 2 family members who died within the last 4 years. He sent comforting words concerning them and let me know that I didn’t even realize that I was carrying grief about them. It’s so true, I really didn’t realize. Thankfully God knows all things.

To paraphrase, God said ‘ You’ve been abandoning yourself. It’s time to get back on your feet. Lift the weight off. Say ‘I shall not die, but I shall live to declare your word’. Joy cometh in the morning. Deliverance is coming!

He spoke of me having a sad countenance, and told me to smile as he gave me my smile. He said that he was smiling right alongside with me.

When God was finished, I realized that it was about a lot more than the physical sickness I had. He brought up unforgiveness and my lack of using bible scriptures and faith. So many revelations from just one encounter.

He was rebuking spirits of madness and suicide. The suicidal thoughts were so subtle, but they’re not of God and you have to nip it in the bud.

I felt that God was saying ‘ You don’t need medication, I’m your medication. The singing voice I’ve given you is medication’. It’s so true, I did feel lifted after I was finished. It had the same affect as the medication.

As mentioned in a previous article on this site, there isn’t anything wrong with medicine or medical professionals, and people should use wisdom. I felt that God was saying personally to me that my deliverance would come directly from him and not the medical field.

Also mentioned in another article on this site, it’s important to help others even while going through your own tribulation. I’m a witness to this. This happened to me just yesterday.

I went to church for the first time in a long time. I listened to the Gospel singing and everything just made me emotional. I couldn’t stop crying. After church I sat in a food place alone. Suddenly in walks a young lady who I hadn’t seen in a few years I think.

She asked me how I was. I wanted to be honest and said ‘not all that good’. She then began talking about the abuse she suffered in childhood. She mentioned that she used therapy to get her through. She was talking about the natural kind, but there was still a lesson in what she was saying.

She was about to walk away, and I held her back and asked if I could pray for her. She was more than willing. I prayed for her, which in turn gave me a chance to concentrate on something other than me. It gave me a good feeling and she said something along the lines of ‘ I wish the same for you, Sister’

I’m still in counselling therapy with my Pastor and it’s early days, but I know that everything is OK, because God says so.

I want to encourage anyone reading this. Don’t give up! There’s light at the end of the tunnel. Believe what God says about you! I know that it’s easier said than done, believe me I really do understand, but try to change your thought processs.

I’ve now learned to make sure that I worship regularly, read the word and try to get out of the house where possible. Reach out to others, look after yourself and trust God.

You are a royal priesthood, a chosen generation. You’re a child of a precious, almighty King.

    God bless.

  23. I want people of God to pray for me, I have indebted in so many ways as a result of insufficient. help me pray that God should connect me with people that mater so that I will be able to pay them all. I am a printer by professional, and I am an Nigerian. thanks God bless you all.
