The world will not understand your faith, and in most cases, neither will family or friends. They won’t understand because they can’t understand. Faith is a deeply personal thing that only God and you are privy to. Faith and doubt are things of the heart and only you and God can go there.
Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes (in his heart) that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Mark 11: 23
Others cannot help you in your believing. They can encourage you, they can point you to the right scriptures, and they can give you what impressions they may have by the Holy Spirit, but that is it. They cannot tell whether you are in faith or not, or if you had heard correctly from God or not. And because faith usually requires one to step out and take a risk, they usually will try to talk you out of it. What if Peter had asked the others in the boat if he should try walking on water? You know they would have talked him out of it. It made no sense. Faith only makes sense to the one who hears it. Jesus said, “Come” to Peter and it was his decision to make.
It does not mean that the others in the boat were bad or ungodly. They didn’t have faith because they didn’t hear from Jesus. And even if they did hear it, the decision for each is personal to each. Faith is not something on which you can get a consensus or shop for answers. Faith is private and it relies solely on one person hearing from one Person – Christ Himself.
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the (spoken) word of Christ. Romans 10:17
You alone are the only one who needs to know, or can know, what you heard in your heart. Your sole responsibility is to make sure that what you heard is really a word from God to you, and, that it agrees with the Word of God to everyone – the Bible. One of my basics of faith is to, ‘do your homework and stand your ground.’ Once you are convinced in your heart, mark it down and bravely walk in faith.
This is why you must take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand. Stand therefore… Ephesians 6:13, 14a
Know this, the world will try to tear your faith down, and many times those around you will help. Jesus had this problem throughout his life. He was blazing a new path of faith for all humanity, and it is not surprising that most if not all the people around Him did not understand. Many were downright hostile to Him, including members of His own family.
Then He went home, and the crowd gathered again so that they could not even eat. And when his family heard it, they went out to (forcibly) seize him, for they were (repeatedly) saying, “He is out of his mind.” Mark 3:20, 21
So his brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea, that your disciples also may see the works you are doing. For no one works in secret if he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.” For not even his brothers believed in him. John 7:3-5
Imagine your family publicly saying that you are out of your mind for believing God for something?! It happens every day. Add to this the constant opposition by the dead religious crowd, and you get a better picture of what Jesus had to go through. He did not give up and we should not give up. Keep walking in faith. Do not stop.
For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, so that you won’t grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:3
Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. Hebrews 10:35, 36
They didn’t know what was going on inside of Jesus and they don’t know what is going on inside of you. Your faith and your relationship with God are hidden in your heart. People only see your outward behavior and actions. They cannot see the things of the heart. Again, faith is based upon a personal communication from God to your heart and to your heart alone.
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the (spoken) word of Christ. Romans 10:17
No one else can hear it or know it. No one else can deny it or confirm it. Your faith stands on your hearing and your hearing alone. Obedience operates in the same way. In Genesis Chapter 22, God told Abraham to offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice. In other words, God told Abraham to kill Isaac on an altar. How do you convey that message to someone else? You simply cannot. Deep inside Abraham knew that God would ultimately do something to save Isaac’s life because God had also told him that Isaac was His chosen heir. He knew that somehow at the end of all of it Isaac would be okay. It didn’t make any sense in the natural but Abraham knew what he heard and he knew his God. He knew what to do and he did it. God responded with His own lamb and blessed Abraham greatly for his obedience (Genesis 22:12, 13).
And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music. NietzscheA belief is either correct or it is not. It is all based on whether you heard correctly or not. When Abraham ‘believed’ that he heard God say, “Go sacrifice your son Isaac,” he was either psychotic or he was correctly hearing the voice of God. There is nothing in between. Believing is a huge responsibility. Either we get it right or we do not. Our blessing depends on getting it right. It is critically important that we get it right. What we are to receive from God depends on it and our eternity depends on it.
Hearing from God takes time. It is more of an art than a science. It takes knowing His Word and His voice. It takes a submissive and humble heart to hear clearly from God. It takes effort to seek His face and to make sure that we have heard Him correctly. Do it. Take the time. Then walk on confidently in faith receiving.
Hello Rex and everyone I was amazed by that post because I faced the same thing my family and some others even the Dr in hospital thought it was crazy because of my faith about my healing my daughter tried to cut me down and my family lied and told all against me and I still believe and walk with God Isa 53:14-17 and PSA 109@psa35 is my weapons and I forgave and moved on thanks be to God for sending people like you and others
Woow I am bless this morning by the faith teachings bravo ??
Woow am blessed by your article.may the good lord bless you ??
I wanted to say thank U to U sir. What a comfort to read this article. One time my mom said to me…who loves U more than your family? I said Jesus does! I never knew my family loved me, I only knew God did. God/Jesus are 2 words never to be mentioned in this house. My nephew as a infant…all their high priced doctors did not kno what was wrong with him, said he’d never walk. I asked the Lordto show me what was wrong ,what to do and he did, Jesus told me to tell them in 7 months he’d be walking, exact day he did. I did not say anything, his first step he raised his hands, like looking thru the ceiling said thank u Jesus I am walking at 18 months. A miracle, they all did not see it that way, like they expected that of me,faithless people. I pray for these people years. For their salvation, it’ God’ thing. They expected me to take care of their mom, they know I have patience kindness.. they don’t, it was a difficult 3 months and still.but it’s faith in God Jesus. Just to read this word see it right in front of me makes me see that their are other brethren that go thru the same things as Jesus said. Thank U REX
This was a great teaching! Exactly what I needed!
Debbie, I am praying for your husband, wisdom the principal thing. God gives us all great things to use for healing and restoration that the world system does not regard for healing and of course prayer faith as our foundation. When the lord said faith without works no results and He instructs me I did and Hehealed. One T of coconut oil in hot black coffee or oatmeal, ***at least 48 oz of ice water a day & good food without preservatives, lessen sugar. It took 3 months the ice water is the key… my mom 92 years woke up weak, started showing signs of dementia, dehydration causes dementia. She’s fine a total miracle right before my eyes. But I did not stop believing God/Jesus as my source. I asked if it was ok to tell U. YEH
I’m tremendously blessed by your article. I only started really studying on faith & what I got is that we often don’t receive the end of our faith because of a lack of trust. If we really trust, there’s that assurance within that whatever we’re believing for is a “done deal”. We can thus wait for it, no matter how long it takes.
May the Almighty Father continually grace you to stay with Him & receive the “much needed Word for the hour” God bless you real good!
Warm greetings Rex and to you all in the matchless name of our Lord and only Saviour Jesus Christ. I don’t suppose I have seen anywhere else where faith is discuss in such depths and plainness. Thank you all for edifying me, I have been blessed.
Let me add here what the Holy Spirit has shown me concerning faith. There is the operation of Gods faith and a corresponding reaction of our faith (trust). So truly our faith is a reaction to the operations of the Faith of God. Studying Hebrews 11 notice the varying use of the phrases “through faith” and “by faith”. So we are saved “through the faith” of Jesus (God) but we walk “by our faith” in the finished work of Jesus Christ. In other words God saved us through His faith but we ought to walk by our faith in Him. So Abraham received Isaac through the operation of the faith of God (if you study Genesis 17 you will see that Abraham laughed and so had no faith at that point. It was Gods faithfulness at work) but he sacrificed Isaac by his faith (a reaction to the operations of the faith of God in his life).
We could go even deeper.
In these last days the ministry of the word of God will be in operation at its highest ever. Understanding will increase amen.
Thank you. Rex
I am blessed with all I have read below. I believe God ordered my searching upon your site. It’s actually the first time I’m visiting, and assuredly I’ll keep visiting in order to get more blessed. God bless your work.
Samuel – Thank you for coming. God bless you. We love you. Rex
I have been convinced by the Holy Spirit of the following:-
Jesus declares to the disciples, not “It is Me” but, “I Am”. If this is the case, Peter’s response must not have been, “If it is You” & it wasn’t. If you check in the Greek, you will see that Peter actually says, “If thou art (God)”. Ultimately, Peter did not have the faith as he sank into the sea. The other disciples, on the other hand, worship Jesus when He gets into the boat (they would not worship any other than God Himself). The other disciples got that revelation before Peter who gets it later when he declares Jesus to be “The Christ, the Son of the living God”!
In Mk11, Jesus says to the disciples, regarding the withered fig tree, “Have the faith of God” (as you say, “Faith comes”. It comes from God, not from ourselves). I conclude then, that Mk11:23, “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things HE says will be done, he will have whatever HE says.” This is from the NKJ translation as the one you quote does not make this clear! I have capitalised the “HE” so we can all understand that is is ALL about HIS will & it is HIS faith! One time, many years ago, I heard God say, “It is not about YOUR faith in Me, it is about MY faith (deposited) in you!”. Without Him, we can do NOTHING!
Nick – I totally agree. “It is not about YOUR faith in Me, it is about MY faith (deposited) in you!” Faith COMES by hearing and hearing by the (spoken – rhema) word of Christ. Peter may not have understood the whole Person or purpose of Christ on earth, but he heard Jesus say, “Come.’ That was enough to walk on water. And yes, Peter doubted when he saw the ‘waves boisterous’ but Jesus put out His hand and helped him.
His faith is deposited in us when we hear His message in our heart – about whatever we are seeking Him about. His voice is the answer to our seeking and our hope.
And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Hebrew 11:6
Peter called out and asked Jesus about walking on the water. Jesus answered with, “Come.’ That produced faith in Peter to walk on water, but that is not enough. The believing part was Peter actually throwing his leg over the side of the boat.
So too, faith by itself, if it is not complemented by action, is dead. James 2:17 Berean Study Bible
That is when the miracle occurred. It is Jesus’ faith being acted out in our lives that brings the glory to Him and the miracles to us. Rex
Hi Rex, Thanks for your reply & Amen to it.
I think some people miss the point when we read & hear, “Without faith it is impossible to please God….”, thinking they failed God in some way when they “Do not have enough faith”. The thing is, it seems to me, the having faith part is not our responsibility (faith comes from God & we simply receive), it is what we do with said faith that is our responsibility!
God spoke these profound words to me one night whilst praying, “Obedience FOLLOWS faith…………..as does disobedience!”. Without faith it IS impossible please God (or to displease God – needs thinking about!). He is, of course, looking for the positive response, either unto salvation or for any other of His purposes, subsequent to salvation. “Faith without works is dead” but faith with the corresponding action (grace – His divine enablement) will always bring about His promised outcome/blessing. Contrary to what we were taught, as young Christians, many years ago, faith is not an action, faith is a re-action!
With this understanding of faith, you can be sure that there is “No condemnation” for the Believer & we can all feel good about ourselves (because of Him!).
It is both.We have the faith of God, yes.He deposited “His” faith in us in order to get born again.
However, in order to have “His” faith working in you daily to do the works of Jesus
and bare fruit (signs following, healings, etc.) your trust (Faith) must be “In” him.
It is both, not one or the other. When you start doing the works of Jesus on a daily basis you will understand this in a whole different light.
“I tell you the truth, ANYONE who has FAITH in me, will do what I have been doing” – Jesus. (John 14).
These days I try to differentiate between trust & faith for the purpose of clarity. I feel, it is helpful to simply say that we are advised to put out trust in Him (we have trust, which is learned, not faith, which is of God), in order that He can deposit His faith into us (not only for salvation but for every “Good work”).
Once faith is received, we can respond in obedience. We cannot be obedient to something He has not iniciated or instigated or else that becomes a work (of man), not a good work (of God). There is a major difference between “Works” & “Good works”. This can be clearly seen in Eph 2:8-10. Mary & Martha are a very good example of this also.
I hope this makes sense & helps you to see where I am coming from.
Trust and faith are the same thing. My recommendation is to not overthink it.
Faith is just “Confident Trust” in him and his words.
Let me give you a recent testimony on this that will bless your life.
I was recently called to one of our local hospitals.
A woman was on life support due to a stroke.(This is a different one than the other testimony I shared) I was called to pray over her by someone that knew her, NOT her family that was there in the ICU with her.Her family did not want me there. Now here is where the rubber meets the road.I went there anyway.( I have been in this situation many times before)
I walked into the ICU and pushed my way through the closed doors to her room.
Her son in law and daughter were there.I told them “This will only take a few seconds”.I put my hand on hers and said “Be healed in Jesus’s name. When you wake up you will be whole and everything with work.” The son in law was in total unbelief and not happy.I walked out and one of the doctors whom I have seen before sneered at me in unbelief.I prayed over a few more patients and then spoke over the entire hospital in Jesus’ name.As I walked out I spoke with our Father.
I said “Father, make fools of their unbelief.”
Three weeks later I received a text message saying
“Mrs.Chen is ok now.God healed her.Family still doesn’t believe”.
I think they were in total shock.
Jesus loves this stuff.
All this was, was just someone trusting in Jesus and his words,
“You shall have what you say” and “You will lay hands on the sick and they shall recover”- Jesus (Mark 16)
Faith in his words.
Trust in his words.
= Acting on his words.
Have a great day doing the works of our Jesus.
You are hidden in him.
Ps.Just a FYI for everyone.
Jesus never relied on another person’s faith to get them well.He acknowledged
them if they had it, but he never relied on it.He healed them all.
I agree that trust & faith are synonymous terms but I was just trying to simplify the matter & stress that man only has faith once it has been received from God, it is the knowledge (heart not head) that if an action is taken a certain outcome will prevail. It can only result, then, in God getting the glory!
I love the testimony, thank you for sharing it with us all.
All the best.
Sounds great Nick.I have a little gift for you.Pull up “Graham Cooke-Burnout in Ministry” on YouTube.
It is enormously funny and only 6 minutes. You will love it.One of my favorites.Enjoy.
Thanks for that Anthony, I had a listen on YouTube as you suggested. I like his teaching & intend to tune-in to some more of his videos. Graham Cooke is one of the few ministers that we can listen to!
i guess my question got lost in some old comments on another topic so i am posting it here in the newest topic hoping someone can help.
My husband is sick with a terminal illness (dementia). i have been told by several people i trust to “give it to God” and He will do His will for John. But i have to give him up to God. How do i give John up to God and still believe and claim his healing? is that going to make God unhappy if i pray and claim his healing and stand in the gap, fighting the devil for my husband’s life? i fell so alone and frightened, don’t know what to do for my precious husband. thank you
Debbie – Sorry I missed your note. I get so many. Of course when we seek God on something we are in essence ‘giving it to God,’ but the comment, ““give it to God” and He will do His will” to me is a cop out. It comes from that reformed church mentality that thinks submission to the future will of God is faith. Submission is not faith, it is submission. Anyone who does not believe that God still speaks today and does not believe in an active faith for miracles usually replaces faith with submission. They know faith is important so they just change the definition so it is acceptable to their point of view. They usually assume that whatever comes in the future comes from God. Then why do anything, why pray? This is totally against what people did in the Bible.
That said, my recommendation is to actively and aggressively believe God for John. I would get the scriptures on healing and having a sound mind. I would meditate on them and speak them over John, and I would seek God on his behalf. I think at the root of some of these mental situations there are spirits involved. I would study the scriptures on that and curse them in Jesus Name. In short, I would go after it in the spirit in every way I knew how. For me, the passive, “Turn it over to God and see what happens” is not enough. We have much teaching on this attitude on our site. Jesus said, “Thy will be done.” But He was seeking the will of God so that was appropriate, and He was preparing to pay for our souls on the Cross. He never made that comment in regards to the prayer of faith or someone’s healing. Here are some scriptures and articles:

thank you, don’t know what i would do without your site, it has encouraged me
Thank you. I am so glad. Rex
And DON’T you DARE believe otherwise!!
*I meant to _also_ say:
-Yes, I >knownow< current_ situation!
By the way; I really hope your precious husband got healed, and lived – of course.
Debbie, you are not alone. I will stand with you.
Rex has given quite a list of articles from great teachers of believing faith. You need to encourage yourself in God and His promises – the truths read from His word will strengthen you and strengthen your resolve. Do not give up on hope – hope of a good future. Be mindful when reading and in your meditation for The Holy Spirit to quicken these truths to your heart. It’s okay not to understand when these are revealed to your heart. Ask God for understanding and be confident he hears and answers. Speak these promises over John. Let him hear you. Be confident. It is God’s will to heal.
Father, just now I intercede for John. I ask Holy Spirit that John hears your voice and he finds comfort to his heart. I speak the truth of God’s love through Jesus sacrifice for the forgiveness of sin and the healing of John’s body with the stripes on Jesus back. Thank you Jesus. Thank you Father. Thank you Holy Spirit.
I agree with you in Jesus Name!! Rex
thank you, for hope and truth and for praying for John. I will be asking God for understanding and believe He hears me and will answer me.
Debbie – Praying is great but make sure to get the word of God down inside of you so that when you pray you pray from a place of strength and faith. Read the articles and let the hope and faith of God seep into you. Rex
Am highly encouraged with this faith articles…it’s really a boost for me…especially tonite…tanx so much Rex & co
Esther – Thank you so much. And we are highly encouraged that they are boosting your faith. That is what they are intended to do. We love you. Rex
I have spoken and prayed over John. Our Jesus is healing him.
I lead the healing team at my church for 6 years and I still see Jesus heal
and recover people every week of my life.I was just called to one of our local hospitals for another stroke victim. She is already recovering wonderfully after the doctors said she wasn’t going to make it.Praise to our Jesus.Jesus is doing the same for your husband.
“Anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing.”- Jesus. (John 14)
I stand in agreement with you Anthony in Jesus Name. Go get’m Holy Spirit!! Change his life. Rex
Very, very powerful revelation!
So true. Faith comes by hearing, and from the word of god.
Thanks Rex. This speaks to me and gives explanation to the inner workings in my heart by The Holy Spirit. Only I can understand, through The Holy Spirit’s leading, what is going on inside of me or what I’m internalizing. I know I’ve understood what it is He is teaching me when those thoughts “marry” themselves with what God’s word has to say. Your right, it is up to me to move in the direction I believe God is speaking to me about. That is obedience. Some things are easier to understand when they make sense, the kind of sense my human heart understands and the results from that human kind of thinking. Spiritual sense is different. I’m not at a place where if I’m trying to explain to someone what is going on in my heart I can get them to understand just what that is that is going on. I believe these things take place in a believers heart when they have fixed their heart on God.
Andrew – You are such a good guy endeavoring to walk a clean obedient walk. I salute you in Jesus Name. Stay in the Word, keep seeking and keep praying. Half of the issue is patiently dealing with the lack of ‘understandings’ at times. When He speaks to us He does not give us the whole picture or the whole understanding. One, He wants us to operate by faith in obedience. Two, we couldn’t take it all in if he gave us the whole picture. Where do you stop?
Spiritual sense is revelation sense. It might or might not make common sense. It’s a long story but many years ago the company I worked for wanted to move me to California. As I prayed about it God said to me,”Tell them you are going.” I was staggered because I knew in my heart (I thought) that it was not God’s will to move to California. I struggled but obeyed and told them I was going; it was final. California was way too expensive then (more than now compared to here in Atlanta) and I couldn’t find a good area for my kids that I could afford. I had to go back to them later and tell them that I couldn’t do it. I surely thought I had missed it. My boss was tough and I expected to be fired. To my great surprise, he knew that I couldn’t do it but he just wanted me to try my hardest, which I did after God spoke. Everything turned out really good. Here is the thing – in my understanding I thought God was telling me to move to California when He told me to, “Tell them you are going.” He didn’t. He just wanted me to tell them that. But God also wanted me to think that I was really going so I would be more motivated to search. I was obedient through the whole thing, but I felt confused, stressed, and many times feeling that I was going in the wrong direction. What an interesting adventure.
There was another time much earlier when I thought I had really missed it and was wasting my time in disobedience. I was praying a lot and very troubled. One day at work I couldn’t take it anymore, I just dropped everything and cried out to God, repented, and asked for His help. It was one of the few times in my life that He quickly and directly spoke back. He reminded me of an earlier prayer (years before) about learning and growth, and then He said that “He was now teaching me.” Wow, all the while I thought I was totally missing it and He was actually using it to teach me. It changed my whole attitude on my walk and my relationship. I could go on with more…
You are doing much better than you think. Keep walking in God, you are doing great. He is proud of you and so am I. God bless you. Rex
Thanks Rex. I looked and it has been almost three years since we met one another here (you may have a better understanding of that date with your records. I still remember the “old” website arrangement with your picture “hanging in the background”).
Growing in God is challenging. It isn’t easy – it’s a warfare (The Holy Spirit just gave that to me). Carol (my wife) and I have changed churches (about a year ago). It isn’t a perfect fit for me but I’m not sure what a perfect fit really is. Never the less, I continue my devotions because I do want to know God better. I spend time just about every day (throughout the day) thinking (which is a form of prayer), meditating (which is a form of prayer) and praying (……).
I look for “new feedback” from your website and cherish the new messages from you because you do your homework! I trust your work – The Holy Spirit “marries many of your thoughts to my spirit! It is amazing how it never gets old, isn’t it? There is more meat on that bone – how can that happen? It must be that well that never runs dry. Praise God! Something happened to me just recently that was a God thing – a revelation. I was studying the different types of praying and specifically the prayer of intercession and groaning in the Spirit. Anyway, the person I had prayed for in intercession had the very thing happen that was necessary for him and his wife that as I was listening to this teaching God spoke to me in my spirit (that marrying effect as I call it) that I was just overwhelmed – I knew that it was from God. It was important for him and his wife. I don’t know if it means as much to them (it should because it was something of a very serious nature) but when God spoke it to my heart, it was big.
Thanks for all that you do! It has to honor God. Your writing influences many. It gives direction because it is based from God’s Word. Thank you for the meals you serve passed down from our Father above.
Stay steadfast, and the holy sprit will continue to speck to you.
Tanx Rex for your prompt reply. Please is it wrong to pray for a cremated child to come back to life.I have been praying since March 23 2020.infact I pray everyday since then without ceasing. I have got several dreams that he woke up.Even last night same dream but I told God I want to see him in the physical world.People think am crazy and disillusioned. Some said four months is too long to expect such miracle. But I told them my God is bigger than death, mortuary and time
Wow, Andy, there is nothing better than to hear from God and to dramatically benefit someone else by what you do in God. Intercession and groaning in the Spirit (technically – groaning with your spirit by the help of the Holy Spirit) is incredible stuff. Most Christians have no clue what that is, or how to do it. It requires a lot of sensitivity in the Spirit and you obviously have it.
Don’t worry about the ‘confusions’ or the inability to relate to others in the spirit, that is natural. The more time you spend with God and learn His emotions and ways, the less everyone else will understand you – slightly frustrating and mostly wonderful. God bless you. Keep walking in Him and going up in Him. God – His word and His Spirit are like a fractal image. They are actually mathematical equations. The deeper you look into them the more appears, and you can go deeper still. It is never ending. God’s word is like this. The Holy Spirit will take you deeper between the lines. Keep going. Rex
